THE PREGNANT VIRGIN...
THE PREGNANT VIRGIN...
Within the confines of marriage, pregnancy is seen to be honourable; reverse has been the experience when considered outside matrimony. In fact, the cultural values that have been preserved, though by a thin generational line, do not afford maidenhood, the luxury of premarital sex. This has been the norm from time immemorial; both pre and post Bible times; even in our contemporary, it is a value that has earned the upholder of the practice, much honor and God’s rewards.
Jesus Christ was conceived of The Holy Spirit. The superhuman element in the earthly presentation of Christ was not in His birth, but rather His conception. Even though Jesus was born as all humans are born, it is important to explain this distinction; for He was not only as completely God as though He had never been a man, but also as completely man as though He had never been God. For this basis, “the god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers (that they should not discern the truth) preventing them from seeing the illuminating light of the Gospel of the glory of Christ (The Messiah), Who is the Image and Likeness of God” 2 Corinthians 4:4 {AMP}.
This Jesus Christ is the purpose of the Christmas story. It is God’s explanation of His profoundness for man, wrapped up in a bundle that reflects the divinity of God as manifested via the limitations of the human nature! Getting this idea passed through a virgin confirms that a Holy God chose a holy vessel to bring His only begotten son into the world. ...“a virgin engaged to be married to a man whose name was Joseph... He came to her and said, Hail O favoured one (endued with grace)! The Lord is with you! Blessed (favoured of God) are you before all other women! ... Listen! You will become pregnant and will give birth to a son, and you shall call His name Jesus” Luke 1: 27-31 {AMP}.
Mary’s response to the conviction about God’s will shows her submissiveness to God’s purpose. How yielded are you to the will and purpose of God? Moreover, even though she knew that she stood the risk of losing Joseph (her betrothed) and facing serious public ridicule and perhaps rejection, she submitted all the same to God’s will. How challenging! “Then Mary said, Behold, I am the hand maiden of The Lord; let it be done to me according to what you have said”... Luke 1: 38 {AMP].
The 37th chapter of Ezekiel gives a similar account of the unusual nature of God. Ezekiel may have been aware of the resuscitation of a number of dead persons in the past but the idea of dry bones filling a whole plain- and very dry bones at that- coming again to life is mind-boggling! When God decides to use an unusual formula in establishing His purpose, He partners with willing vessels. A chaste colt that had been separated for God’s Glory willingly releases self for The King of kings to ride in triumph; a virgin full of graces dares to be different, “endued with graces” of firm decency despite the degradation in societal morality; Ezekiel is to contribute to the revival of these dry bones! He is to proclaim to them what God’s counsel is. This is the cooperation of the divine and the human- God commands and His true vessels obey Him even without a complete understanding of God’s plan!
The Christmas story is “foolishness” unto the plain. How can a Holy God make a virgin pregnant with the plan to rid humanity of sin? ...“it is absurd and utterly unphilosophical nonsense. But to those who are called, ... Christ is the Power of God and the Wisdom of God. This is because the foolish thing (that has its source in) God is wiser than men”... 1 Corinthians 1: 23-25 {AMP}.
So I say Lord God, “You know!” that these dry bones shall receive your Breath and Spirit and shall live! I shall know, understand and realise that You are The Lord, The Sovereign Ruler who calls forth loyalty and obedience service!
So I release myself for your use; for your Glory, I cooperate with you and “I prophesy as I was commanded, ... there was a thundering noise and behold a shaking and trembling and a rattling and the bones came together, bone to its bone... and flesh came upon them and skin covered them over... Thus says The Lord God: come from the four winds O Breath and Spirit and breath upon these slain that they may live” Ezekiel 37: 7-9 {AMP}.
At Christmas, the unusual is performed; the pregnant virgin witnessed the recreation of humanity from its deadness!
Beloved, this Christmas, “With God, nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfilment” Luke 1: 37 {AMP}.
This “Christmas is divine” and it is your best ever!
