PLEASE LET US REPENT!
PLEASE LET US REPENT!
Genuine repentance is an issue of the heart. God responds with compassion to the soul that makes a U-turn from sin. The definition of sin is not far-fetched. God’s laws are not cumbersome; they are life. His character is revealed in His laws. But sin is anything that is contrary to this. It is the coming short of the glory; the character of God. Apostle Paul affirms that “since all have sinned and are falling short of the honor and glory which God bestows and receives” Romans 3: 23 {AMP}.
God is nowhere the originator of sin. He tempts no one to do evil – {James 1: 13}. Sin originated from satan in his rebellion against God. Iniquity was found in the King of Tyre {an evident figure of the devil}. “You were blameless in your ways, from the day you were created, until iniquity and guilt were found in you” Ezekiel 28: 15 {AMP}. In his pride, he sought to make himself like the Most High. “and you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will exalt my throne above the stars of God… I will make myself like the Most High’” Isaiah 14: 13 & 14 {AMP}.
The effect of sin on human life is the problem involved in the original sin of satan. Man is incapable of acting from purely unselfish motives in order to glorify only his Creator and in his sinful state, he is totally unable to reconcile himself to the righteous ruler of the universe. For the intent of man’s heart is evil– it reveals to God, the inwardness of man’s sins. The Scripture states that “all our righteous deeds are like filthy rags” Isaiah 64: 6 {NIV}. Man cannot perform any good deeds which are really acceptable in God’s sight. Man has been sinful from the very moment of conception – {Psalm 51: 5}, and his heart is more deceitful than anything else; desperately corrupt and incurably sick; wicked – {Jeremiah 17: 9}.
The Bible is consistent that the punishment of sin is death – both physical and spiritual alienation from God. “Then the evil desire; when it has conceived, gives birth to sin and sin, when it is fully matured, brings forth death” James 1: 15 {AMP}. – The metamorphosis of sin!
Therefore, the remedy for sin is repentance i.e complete change in attitude to sin. Individually and nationally God requires that our response to Him be a sacrifice of a broken spirit and a contrite heart [broken down with sorrow for sin, humble and sincerely penitent]; this is the attitude of the kind of fast acceptable to God. For this season of prayers and fast, even beyond, we must abstain from sin. We must humble ourselves. It is not enough to dress as one mourning for sin, without any real sorrow for them- “Rend your hearts and not your garments and return to The Lord, your God”… Joel 2: 13 {AMP}. Jesus made the same point when He insisted that those who fast should not do so in any ostentatious way if they must avoid hypocrisy- “And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, who try to look pale and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I assure you that is the only reward they will ever get” Matthew 6: 16 {NLT}.
Like Daniel, we must pray right. He prayed with total surrender to God and complete openness to what God was saying to him. When you pray, do you speak openly to God? Examine your attitude. Talk to God with openness, be vulnerable in the presence of your Creator, entreat Him with honesty and be ready for His reply.
“And I prayed to the LORD my God and made confession… We have sinned, and dealt perversely and done wickedly and have rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and ordinances and thy judgments. Neither have we listened to and heeded your servants the prophets”…Daniel 9: 4-6 {AMP}.
The repentance that moves God is one with perfect hatred for sin. An attitude in despiracy to rid ourselves of the embers of sin; the stain and smell of the acts of corruption and disregard of God’s will, the audacity of national immorality. For those of us that are regarded with the sacred name of God, let us not be complacent with sin- we cannot be comfortable with a culture of flagrant neglect of God’s laws around us. Like Daniel, take responsibility for repentance of sin. Christian, the norm of iniquity in our society is an indicator of an imminent doom. Do you care less that “sin is a reproach” unto any rebellious people? Do you realize that you are not exempted from corporate purnishment of disobedience to God?
Just now, decide that your fast be to God, your spiritual act of worship, holy and acceptable to
God. A call to genuine humility before God and substantial change according to God’s will!
Just now, let us commence the journey back on focus of God’s will. Child of God, seek Our Father for the right motives! For seeking His face first, then leads to the abundance in His hands!
Just now, give up your doubts; reject Him no more!
Just now, throw open the door; Let ONLY Jesus stay in your heart, please rid of sin!
Just now, I urge you, fraternal connection that in view of God’s mercies, raise your voice like a
trumpet and declare God’s counsel to all.
Just now, “[Rather] Is not this the kind of fast I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free and that you break every [enslaving] yoke? Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry... when you see the naked, that you cover him, and that you hide not yourself from [the needs of] your own flesh and blood... then you shall call, and The Lord will answer”… Isaiah 58: 6-9 {AMP}.
